Yadkin Riverkeeper Spring Appeal

Dear Friend of the Yadkin River,

I hope you had a happy and productive Earth Day. I am writing to ask your support for the Yadkin Riverkeeper. We all know the Yadkin is a remarkable river that flows through the very heart of North Carolina. It is large watershed, roughly 7,221 square miles that serves as the drinking water source and sustains a population of almost 1.7 million residents. The magnitude of the river basin is both immense and impressive. And yet, the overall conditions of the large river system are influenced by an infinite number of situations, both good and bad, that occur on a smaller, more localized scale.

Every town, street, farm, factory or open space within the basin contributes, to some degree, to the health, or harm, of the Yadkin River. As individuals, families, groups, communities, or regions, we can work together to manage and improve the overall quality of the river that we rely on for sustenance, drinking water, recreation and, yes, economic viability for societal growth and benefit.

The Yadkin Riverkeeper advocates for the river. We need your help. Recently, the Riverkeeper implemented a program of identifying more than 230 watersheds within the larger basin that are suitable for “adoption”. For an annual donation of $250, a watershed can be adopted in your name, or in honor or memory of someone you designate. Benefits of a watershed adoption include:

  • Certificate of adoption and recognition on our watershed map on YRK’s website.

  • If interested, serving as YRK’s point of contact for community outreach and stream monitoring.

  • Satisfaction of knowing your decision to adopt a small area will help support clean water efforts in a much larger watershed.

Please consider a contribution of $250 or more to adopt-a-watershed or consider a donation to our Spring Appeal here. Join in at the beginning of this effort to strengthen our collective work to protect the Yadkin River. You can check the map here to select which watershed you would like to adopt, then please contact Katie Wilder, YRK’s director of operations and communications, to check your watershed's availability. If you have questions or need assistance. Katie can be reached at katiew@yadkinriverkeeper.org or by calling 336-722-4949.

We appreciate your support.

Sincerely,

Joe Morris
