Rain barrels are perfect for small gardens and container plants. Set one up to conserve water, save money, and help keep our streams clean!
Rainwater harvesting has multiple benefits including water conservation, the potential to lower municipal water bills, and a chemical-free source of water for flower and vegetable gardens. An even bigger benefit is the potential to reduce water pollution of our streams and rivers through the reduction of stormwater runoff. Join Phyllis Baker Smith, Natural Resources and Environmental Systems Agent, on World Water Day as she discusses design features, installation and set-up, safety considerations, and care and maintenance of rain barrels and small cisterns. Grace Fuchs, Yadkin Riverkeeper Assistant, will also be speaking about the importance of stormwater runoff reduction. A PowerPoint presentation will be followed by a short tour of the Forsyth County Extension Center Demonstration Garden to see how rainwater harvesting is used in the herb garden and pawpaw orchard.
Door prizes will include Creek Week tee shirts and a 50-gallon Ivy Rain Barrel. Participants must be pre-registered through Eventbrite, attend the entire event, and complete a post-program evaluation to be eligible for door prizes.
Attendance limited to 40 participants.
