Yadkin Riverkeeper Plans Annual Meeting in Elkin

Pensacola, Florida-area Coastkeeper to speak on BP Oil Spill Disaster
WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – Yadkin Riverkeeper®, a non-profit organization committed to protecting the Yadkin River Basin, will hold its annual meeting in Elkin this year. Carolina Heritage Vineyard and Winery will host the event on Friday, October 29. Yadkin Riverkeeper members, stakeholders, and area residents concerned about the well-being of the Yadkin River are invited to attend.

Alcoa’s Old Brick Landfill rises above the waters of Badin Lake. According to a 2008 NC Department of Water Quality report, Alcoa discovered contaminated groundwater seepage at two of its landfill sites, including Old Brick Landfill. Pollutants of concern include aluminum, fluoride, cyanide, chlorine and arsenic.
